Skype Finally Available on the Android Market

Finally, the official Skype app just hit the Android Market! This app has been past due – I just cannot help but wonder what took them so long to get this out?

The free app allows for free Skype-to-Skype calls, free instant messaging and group messaging as well. You can also make both local and international calls over WiFi or 3G using Skype Credit or via subscription. If you already use Skype on a computer, you’ll see your full contact list when you sign in to Skype on your Android phone. If not, you can set up an account and be ready to go in minutes.

I have it up and running on my device and it’s looking smooth so far. I like the sync feature that allows you to sync your Skype contacts to your phone. I am yet to give the app an Android spin. Let us know what you think about the app.

With just under 50 downloads in less than 7 hours of release, I was a bit disappointed. Let’s see how well it does on the market – I am sure it will pick up in about 24 hours. Are you happy it’s here or did you get so tired of waiting that you found alternatives instead? Hit up the comment section with your thoughts.

You can scan the QR code below or simply click the barcode from your phone for for a direct link to Skype. It should work on all Android devices.
