The Sony Xperia Z3 is going to be available from T-Mobile; will other U.S. carriers follow suit?

Sony Xperia Z3Just last month, Sony announced it would scaling back its low and mid range smartphones in favour of its premium devices. This was in no small part due to its financial issues, and a large part of these issues, in Sony’s own words, was a failure to gain a foothold in the U.S. market. Considering that T-Mobile has been the sole carrier to carry Sony devices, this isn’t particularly surprising – that isn’t a dig at T-Mobile, but more a comment on the lack of device availability. That might be about to change as Sony has scheduled an event in New York on October 9th, presumably to formally release the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact in the U.S., and The Verge is suggesting we could see Sony announcing partnerships with other U.S. carriers as well.

T-Mobile has of course recently confirmed it will be carrying the Xperia Z3, but the fact that Sony has already mentioned a prior weakness in its U.S. sales suggests it should branch out to other carriers too. Of course, Sony’s relationship with T-Mobile is the strongest, so don’t be surprised to see some kind of exclusive deals when the time comes – T-Mobile has tweeted that people interested in the Xperia Z3 Compact in particular should “keep an eye” on their newsroom.

Whatever the case, many people will be glad to see the Xperia Z3 and particularly the Z3 Compact in the U.S. at all, so stay tuned for updates when the event goes live.

What do you think about the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact being available on other U.S. carriers? Let us know your opinion.
