The Dell Streak Gets a Taste of Froyo

The Dell Streak on AT&T is running Android 1.6 out of the box while the Streak overseas on certain carriers has been upgraded to Android 2.1 in what we’re learning is carrier discretion. Dell has previously stated that the Dell Streak would be receiving an upgrade to Android 2.1, but decided to skip that firmware altogether in hopes of providing a nice hefty scoop of Froyo for their Streak users.

It was only a matter of time before a member of the modding community decided he didn’t want to wait any longer as DJ_Steve, who we assume is a DJ when he’s not modding devices, has successfully ported Android 2.2 to the Streak giving him a stock vanilla taste of the latest OS on his once 1.6 device.  In the video below, you can see a 7 minute demo of Froyo on the Streak and according to him, the process is complex and comes with known issues. Check out the vid.

If you would like to read up more on the process to make this a reality on your Dell Streak, hit up MoDaCo for the downloads and instruction. Be sure to tip the kind sir for his work by heading here GBP Donate or USD Donate.

*Note* DJ_Steve aka Stephen Hyde also states at the bottom of his thread at MoDaCo the following:

There will be official CyanogenMod forum support for this ROM once it hits RC status.

Anyone heading out to pick up a Dell Streak?
