[Video] Samsung Galaxy Tab – Honeycomb Port (Alpha Build) Available

If you’ve been keeping track of the XDA thread regarding the almost “fully working” Honeycomb port for the Galaxy Tab, this is a product of the work. XDA member spacemoose1 has put in a lot of wrench time getting the port this far along. It’s still a far cry from completely operational, however it does run. There’s a few things to be noted for anyone attempting this adventure into the unknown.

Disclaimer: Install at your own risk. This build is overclocked and at an early development phase. If you are not comfortable installing experimental software, wait for a more stable build. If you have no experience using ADB, Heimdall or flashing custom software you might reconsider installing this until those with more experience have done so and can help you unbrick your device should you make a mistake… or just wait for the stable release. (But remember, you don’t truly own a device until you’ve voided the warranty.)

Secondary Disclaimer:This is a pure development build right now, best suited for those interested in developing the system. You really, really should consider the above disclaimer.

Also:Read the above and believe it.

This build is for the CDMA versions of the Galaxy Tab and is confirmed working on both. As stated above this is an alhpa build so do not expect a daily driver as there are things that work and even more that don’t.

Functional:

  • Base system
  • Hardware acceleration (with some errors)
  • Modified KhasMek Voodoo OC 1.4 kernel (needs improvement)

Broken:

  • Everything else (GPS, 3G, wifi, accelerometer, SD access, etc. etc.)

Current development goals:

  • Fix driver issues (pvrsrvinit crash-loops but loads EGL drivers anyway, s5pc110 drivers only partially load)
  • Improve deployment (installation doesn’t seem to always work, even on the same device)
  • Design kernels for other models

As with all development testing and feedback is encouraged in regards to furthering progress on this build.

If you wish to contribute to this project:

  • Please report bugs in the thread, (and please try to keep posts relevant to development issues.)
  • Include a logcat and/or kmsg dump when possible.
  • Submit fixes / improvements / hacks to me at daniel.glorioso@gmail.com so that I may include them in the next release and we can avoid fragmentation (you will be credited and donate linked, if you accept donations, in the changelog.)
  • Donate some spare change (though I will continue to develop this project regardless of any compensation as open source software should be 100% free.)

For non-contributing visitors:

  • Please refrain from posting unless you are actively testing or developing this project (post general questions in the “galaxy tab questions” section or in the development blog in the general section.)

or

  • Download it, make it better and slap your own name on it. As long as we are moving forward, I don’t care what you do.

If you can follow the requirements above and are still interested in giving this a try pay a visit to the XDA thread. Good luck. =)

[While we support development, we do not take responsibility for anything that happens to your device upon flashing software . If your device gets bricked, your dog eats it, or it self-destructs, we’re throwing our hands up. Not in celebration of course, however if that last thing happens get it on video. It would make a nice post. Have fun. =)]
