Xperia ZR gets announced by Sony, the new fully waterproof Phone

Sony Xperia ZR waterproof Android device
Sony has just announced the next device to fall under the Xperia branding name. The Xperia ZR is fully submerge-able in 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Giving you a carefree feeling about taking your device rafting, fishing or any other potentially hazardous water born activity. Of course the real purpose behind the waterproofed device, is so you can take those super cool underwater photos and HD videos.

The Xperia ZR sports a 4.6″ 720p Reality Display, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, NFC and a 13MP camera. I have played around with a few Xperia devices in the past, their cameras and screens are pretty amazing. The ZR is slated to be available sometime in Q2 and is supposed to head out in 4 color options. Black, White, Pink and Blue. Like most Sony devices though, don’t expect to see it land states side on any carrier. Most likely you will need to drop $700+ to pick up an unlocked version.

They sure do make it look appealing in their promo videos though.

What do you guys think? Should more of these guys start waterproofing devices? I don;t think it is a bad idea for the consumer. Obviously it does lower the rate of damaged devices and insurance claims.
