Android 4.0 update out for AT&T Pantech Element

Pantech has been a rather quiet company for many years. We had a chance to meet up with them at CES in January and were very surprised at their new products. They were fast, affordable and really nice. The Pantech Element was their tablet offering that landed at AT&T. We are sure some of you picked one up when they had it bundled with other devices. Hard not to when at the time it was one of the faster tablets with a reasonable price tag. For those of you that did snag one, you will be happy to know that Pantech and AT&T have released an update that brings the device off its Honeycomb OS version to Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. We all know that ICS is faster and cleaner than Honeycomb was, so this should make a whole new tablet experience for many of you. Here is what you guys will see.

New User Features

  • Enhanced Home screen canvas switcher edit functionality(In the preview of home screen panels, users can change a main home screen panel).
  • Enhanced Multitasking and Notifications functionality.
  • Enhanced User Interface : Virtual buttons in System bar, contextual options in Action Bar.
  • Improved text input and spell-checking (Android keyboard)
  • Control over Network data and Powerful web browsing
  • New! Self mode and Panorama capture mode in camera.
  • New! Time-Lapse recording function in video camera.

UI Improvements

  • Improved user interface design with GL library.
  • Support for Native Sync of AT&T Address Book.
  • Improved lock screen.
  • Improved Quick Settings and Detail Settings.
  • Additional Improvement UI interfaces.

Before you go checking the settings for an OTA, you won’t find it there. So we will save you the headache of checking every 30 minutes. Rather the update is available via Pantech’s Website. You will need access to a PC, not a Mac, in order to download the update and install it t your tablet. Of course that means a USB cord as well. So if you have an Element lying about, hit up Pantech’s site and pick up your update. Let us know what you think of it afterwards too.
