Flexible LED Screens On Phones, Might Be Closer Than We Think

When I first heard about this I thought to myself, WHAT?! Why would I want to bend my phone? Then I checked out the video from the recent CES where they displayed their flexible screens and thought, wow. The future is now. Now Samsung is talking about putting it on their Galaxy S phones. Leave it to Samsung to push the envelope even farther. Can you imagine having one in your pocket? You will be the life of the party when you pull your phone out, pretend to break it, then straighten it out again. IT’S MAGIC!

So yes folks, a Samsung spokesman by the name of  Robert Yi, was reported saying:

The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part. The application probably will start from the handset side.

Pretty crazy stuff. Samsung is referring to the project under the name “Galaxy Skin”, which are made of plastic polymide substrate. This plastic is way more flexible than glass of course, and is super strong to withstand the crazy impacts of daily life. Will you get your hands on a “Galaxy Skin” phone when they come out? Personally I don’t know if I would want to have my phone to have the ability to do it. Guess I will have to see the first device to have it. If you haven’t seen the flexible AMOLEDs displayed at the 2011 CES, check out the video below.
