Google getting ready to dish out some Froyo

Froyo, the code name for Android 2.2, is still in development but likely not for much longer. Android and Me is reporting their Analytics data showing 2.2 devices, meaning there is testing going on in the wild. While Google has stopped publishing roadmaps for future builds, there is a general consensus Froyo will be mostly system enhancements rather than updates designs. Possibilities for upgrade could include:

  • JIT compiler-Confirmed
  • Free additional RAM
  • OpenGL ES 2.0 enhancements
  • Flash 10.1 support
  • Resolution of cross multitouch
  • Activation of color trackball
  • Enable FM radio

While some of these features are already possible with rooting, it will be good for Google to catch up.Given that Google I/O is just a month away, you can expect to hear more about Android 2.2 in the coming weeks, as well an announcement tied directly to the event.
