HTC One S-ness: SlimBean Android 4.2.2 ROM

SlimBean-android-4.2.2

It has been a little time since I did a ROM review for our beloved HTC One S. Decided to give SlimBean UNOFFICIAL from D.I.R.T. a try, and right off the bat, I fell in love with it. Too bad certain things would drive me away.

First thing I noticed when the phone booted up, was the SlimBean “S” replaced the lock icon. Very fancy looking, and the DPI settings were set low, so the screen looked bigger. We do not have as much screen space as newer phones, so that was a nice little added bonus. This version of SlimBean has Holo Launcher baked within it, which is different from most ROMs that would usually run Nova or Trebuchet. I immediately downloaded Nova, just because it runs better than Holo, and I loved the fact that they have the Slim Dark feature in the settings. Turns pretty much everything inverted, so no ugly white colors on my screen. The ROM is very responsive and fast, but I would soon be plagued with issues.

One major issue…THE BUBBA KERNEL. I have no idea why the developer insists on using the kernel, because it plagues it with random reboots. Probably like 7-8 times a day, the phone would reboot. I tried to flash different versions of that kernel, but it just was not having it. So, sadly, I had to get rid of SlimBean. I would highly recommend it if the dev went with another kernel, or fixed the issue that causes the ROM and the kernel not to get along. Check out my brief video below, and let me know if you have tried it out.
