Three Verizon Wireless call centers shut down, it’s about maximizing real Estate

When the new originally came across the web on a few various sites I follow, I was immediately upset with Verizon. After doing some more digging into the matter, I am still really upset with Verizon. According to reports, Verizon is closing the doors on three call centers around the nations. The centers in Houston, TX, Southfield, Mich and Bellevue Wa. Ultimately putting 3,100 loyal reps and workers with out a job. At first glance one might think this is to outsource some more. Which does happen, but is not the case, or so they are telling us. We know Verizon isn’t short on funds or in jeopardy of going bankrupt any time soon, so out sourcing is just not a feasible solution to cut costs that they can already afford.

“It’s really about trying to maximize existing real estate we’ve got,” said Scott Charlston, spokesman for the Pacific Northwest region. “We’ve got extra capacity in some places and we want to utilize the space we do have.”

Where does that leave the employees of these three call centers. Verizon isn’t just kicking them to the street, as others are trying to portray it. In all actually, the employees have a few choices. Migrate into other positions around the ares, like retail sales. Accept a severance package for undisclosed amount. Which is usually based on individual rep performance through out their carrier with the company. Finally, they can take $10,000 as a relocation package and move to another call center somewhere else. Verizon has 28 other centers around the nation so there are lots of choices.

All are very generous offerings from Verizon. While relocating is huge decision for any family, especially if you are just an average paid rep, it is a great way to get to a completely new location. Those of you that might be faced with the relocation decision, we recommend you do a lot of research on the available locations you can choose from. Don’t just pack up and move somewhere you might end up hating. Best of luck to those 3,100 employees. And you might see a slightly higher wait time to get to a rep during the transitions.
