[Video] Plex teases new revamped app coming for Android Soon, Buttery Smooth

Plex for Android has been around for quite some time. It is an app that offers the end-user a simple way to watch videos and listen to your music collection all from one app. It has a ton of free channels to pull from and acts a pretty great media server. We have been using Plex on Android and our Google TV’s for a couple of years now and still enjoy itÂ immensely. As technology changes so do applications. Plex is teasing a new Android app that has been in the works and we have to saw, it is looking beautiful.

The next update to grace your device will only be available for Android 3.2 devices and up. Plex clears up this change by stating that 90% of current Plex users are on Android 4.0 or newer. Where as the current app is supported on Android 1.6 and up. So those of you still stuck in the world of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, won’t get to see the new stuff until you get an OTA or a new device. Sorry. They didn’t kick Android 3.2 to the curb simply because that is what Google TV still runs on. The new app is scheduled to make its debut sometime this week for PlexPass subscribers. It will launch as a beta at first and later be released as an update to the current app available.

Besides the obvious changes to the UI of the next Plex for Android app, you will also get some great other improvements. The new app has been written from scratch. Taking all the good from the current app and pulling it over while leaving all the bad and ugly by the wayside. The new Plex will bring in paging, infinite scrolling and network data compression. In English, it means giant libraries will load faster. Not to mention PlexSync and the same rich filters many Plex users already know and love.

There is one more MAJOR addition to the new Plex. The new ability to make your device a media server. Meaning that you can share your media with another device.
