WiMe NanoWatch, an Android companion or a second phone on your Wrist

WiMe NanoWatch
Have you been considering getting yourself a smartwatch or connected watch anytime soon? We sure have been. While at CES 2013 we got our hands on two different models with two very different usage ideas. One being the I’m Watch, which is aimed at having a nearly full on device experience on your wrist. The other being the Martian watchv, more aimed at alerts and delivering information.

One watch we did miss while on the show floor was the WiMe (pronounced Why Me). Similar to the I’m Watch, this is aimed to give you a full on device experience on your wrist. The NanoWatch features a 1.54-inch 240 x 240 resistive touchscreen display, 300 mAh battery which provides 4 hours talk time or 120 hours standby. It runs on a Linux-based OS with just 256MB of ROM and 2GB of storage. Although the video you can see below talks about that 2 GB limit having already been increased to 4 GB.

The full touch screen displays your time,in what looks like various configurations. Kinda like the Pebble watch. It has its own home screen that offers ups a voice recorder, FM radio, Alarm and Bluetooth connection. It also has a phone function that lets you see you contacts, a dial pad and make calls through Bluetooth. All fairly standard options on the higher end smartwatches with full touch screens. However, the WiMe has an added little addition. It has a sim card slot in the side also. This gives you a second phone available to you when ever you need it.

The NanoWatch is currently available in China for $99 USD, but they are aiming to bring it to the US in due time. While it looks kinda cool, it also looks rather large. So is the I’m Watch. I like the idea of these style of watches, but I am not sold on them just yet. I still see issues with battery life and that never-ending need to hit a button just to see the time. The WiMe could be a great little companion watch though, especially at the price tag we are seeing.

What do you guys thing about this potential new entry to the Smartwatch category here in the U.S.
