Get ready to more ads in Gmail

Despite google ongoing efforts to enhance the Gmail experience with new features such as a company verification checkmark and generative AI tools, users can expect to see more ads in previously ad-free areas of the email app, including the Updates filter, where ads have not been displayed until now, according to a report by 9to5google

While Gmail on desktop has previously featured ads primarily at the top of the inbox, recent reports of ads appearing between actual emails have caused confusion and frustration among users, who have taken to Twitter to voice their complaints.

Despite numerous complaints from users about the recent influx of ads in Gmail, it is unclear whether google intentionally increased ad frequency or is simply testing the change with select accounts, as some users have reported no change. While the company is scheduled to discuss various topics, including new Android versions and AI advancements, at the upcoming google I/O conference on May 10, it is uncertain whether Gmail changes will be addressed.
